Parent-Child Reading Notes

Today, I was reading "Reading Together with Adults" with my sons, and there was a story by Japanese author Minakami Nankichi. When the eldest son heard this, he became unhappy and exclaimed, "Written by a Japanese person? I don't want to read it!" I asked, "Why?" He replied, "Because Japanese people are bad guys!" I asked again, "Then whose work do you like to read?" He answered, "Confucius. 'In dealing with friends, trustworthiness is of utmost importance. If promises are broken, then what can be tolerated?'" I continued, "Do you know that during Confucius' time, we were actually foreigners?" He said, "Huh?" I found a map and circled Shandong, telling him, "Look, Confucius was a person from the State of Lu during the Spring and Autumn Period, approximately in this area. But at that time, Guangdong, where we are from, did not belong to any country. To our ancestors, Confucius was a for...

Tales of Three Cancer Patients

The first story that touched me came from the movie " Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri ". When a person knows that he is terminally ill and encounters accusations and incomprehension, how will he react? The moment Sheriff Willoughby covered his head with a towel and pulled the trigger on himself, I really wanted to call him a coward! The Bible says not to kill. If a person chooses to give up just because of terminal illness and accident, isn’t he afraid of going to hell if he does such a thing? But as the plot of the movie progressed, one letter after another opened up the heart of the heroine and at the same time broke my original prejudice. In order not to drag down his family, to eliminate hatred, even if he is not understood or even misunderstood, he has to arrange everything and then make that choice. Is this brave or cowardly? Should such a person go to heaven or hell after death? I'm starting to get a little confused. . . While I was still looking for ans...

Reflections on Media Responsibility and Seeking the Truth

Origin of the Incident: On April 7th, China Newsweek published an interview with the manager of the Meixue Bingcheng (Honey Snow Ice City) regarding the child labor incident. After reading it, like many other netizens, I wanted to know if the young girl had been properly taken care of. However, despite searching the entire internet, I couldn't find accurate results. So, on April 9th, I contacted the official "Zhejiang Province Citizen Complaints" platform to request a public response about the girl's situation and to address the concerns of the public. Yesterday, on April 19th, I received a response from the Tian Tai County Comprehensive Administrative Law Enforcement Bureau. The reply is as follows: Hello, We have received your report at our bureau. Based on relevant laws in Zhejiang Province, we have punished the shop operators involved in illegal labor practices and have informed the relevant departments and streets about the individual's situation. Currently...

Challenging Media Bias: Making Truth the Standard in News

A few days ago, in the conclusion of my open letter to China News Weekly, I wrote, "Finally, I would like to say to those friends who, after reading the reports, take a stand with Meixue Bingcheng (a fictional city): Kindness can help some people, but only institutions can help everyone." Some friends who have read the original text may find the ending abrupt. It was initially intended as an open letter to the magazine, so why did it suddenly shift focus to ordinary people? Firstly, as a non-professional in the media industry, I cannot provide them with more professional advice; I can only touch upon the subject. Secondly, the only requirement we have for all news media now is to not be so biased next time. However, achieving this goal cannot be accomplished solely through one article. The most crucial factor is for readers, viewers, and netizens to possess higher discernment and thinking abilities, vote with their feet, and compel news media to improve their professional s...
